Medical Administrative Specialist

Atlantic Technical Center


 

The purpose of the Medical Adminstrative Specialist (Medical Secretary) training program is to prepare students for employment as medical secretaries, medical office clerks, medical insurance secretaries, medical records clerks or medical administrative specialist. The Medical Adminstrative Specialist training program is also tailored to persons previously or currently employed in the medical field.

The Medical Adminstrative Specialist prepares individuals to perform secretarial duties utilizing knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures to transcribe medical documents from machine transcription, and to produce quality work using advanced features of business software applications.

After successfully completing the Medical Adminstrative Specialist training program, the student will be able to perform:

  • Keyboarding 
  • Records management
  • Billing and scheduling using the Medisoft program
  • Medical terminology
  • Medical office procedures 
  • Medical transcription
  • Advanced applications using Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint
  • Production of high quality employment portfolios and job seeking documents

Completion Time:
The length of this program is 1050 hours (approximately 10 months).

College Credit Transfer Opportunity and / or Advanced Credit
Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, students may be awarded up to 16 college credits (maximum) towards an A.S. Degree by Broward College and up to 21 college credits by other selected Florida Community Colleges. See counselor for additional information.

Industry Certification & State Credential Exams
Completing students will be eligible to take the following: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, and State of Florida Ready to Work.
