Administrative Office Specialist

Atlantic Technical Center

 

The purpose of the Administrative Office Specialist program is to prepare students for employment as a general office clerk, a secretary, an administrative assistant, or to provide supplemental secretarial training for persons previously or currently employed in any of these occupations. The Administrative Office Specialist program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the administrative assistant.

Administrative Office Specialist course teaches:

  • communication skills
  • higher level thinking skills and decision making skills
  • the performance of office procedures and tasks
  • the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications
  • administrative/financial functions
  • production of high quality employment portfolios
  • exploration of new technologies including voice recognition training.

The Administrative Office Specialist program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the office support services industry: planning; management; finance; technical and production skills; underlying principles of technology; labor issues; community issues; and health, safety, and environmental issues.

Administrative Office Specialist students prepare business documents, worksheets, presentations, and databases utilizing the advanced features of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access. 

Completion Time:
The length of this program is 1050 hours (approximately 10 months full time).

Industry Certification & State Credential Exams:
Completing students will be eligible to take the following: Microsoft Office Specialist  (MOS) Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint;  and State of Florida Ready to Work.

College Credit Transfer Opportunity and / or Advanced Credit:
Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, students may be awarded up to 21 college credits towards an A.S. Degree by Broward College or up to 21 credits by other selected Florida Community Colleges. See program counselor for additional information.
